Microbiology is the branch of science deals with the study of microorganisms, a diverse group of minute forms either unicellular, multicellular or acellular that includes bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses that are too small to be seen with the naked eye.
Microbiology provides information on the structure, function and classification of organisms and the ways of exploiting and controlling their activities providing the fundamental basis for research on the biochemistry, physiology, cell biology, clinical aspects and host response.
Microbiology is divided into several sub-disciplines including bacteriology, viriology, mycology, protistology, immunology and parasitology offers study at different levels; community (ecology and epidemiology), cell (cell biology and physiology) and proteins and genes (molecular biology).
